Alessandro Pellone – The most beautiful glove is the one I have yet to create

From royal courts to fashion runways, the glove has always been a symbol of elegance. While many accessories have lost their meaning in the age of mass production, the handcrafted glove continues to tell stories. One of the strongest voices of this tradition is Alessandro Pellone, the third-generation artisan behind the Gala Gloves brand, who visited Chișinău last week for the “Sartoria Deluxe Creative” exhibition, organised by Sandro Livv at the National Museum of History.

#INTRO

Built on the passion and vision of the Pellone family, Gala Gloves is more than a glove-making company; it is a laboratory of innovation where Neapolitan tradition meets modern techniques such as laser cutting, embroidery on leather, and digital printing. From collections presented at international fairs to bespoke orders for VIP clients, the brand has managed to turn gloves from a seemingly simple accessory into a manifesto of contemporary elegance. Today, Gala Gloves exports 80 percent of its production worldwide, from America to Japan, and is admired for its style, quality, and the courage to bring innovation into a field rooted in tradition.

What makes a Gala Gloves creation unique?

Uniqueness comes from research and passion. Each glove carries not only craftsmanship but also the emotion we put into the process. For us, it is not just about a fashion item, but about conveying value, tradition, and dedication through every detail.

What is the secret behind your long-lasting success and international recognition?

Success is never built overnight, it takes time. Gala Gloves is a third-generation company, founded by my grandmother and father. I have been part of it since 1990, so for more than 30 years. What defines us above all is passion and curiosity. I have always tried to bring innovation into the workshop, introducing techniques that were not traditionally used in glove-making. For example, we introduced laser cutting, needle-punching, decorative stitching, as well as CAD systems to create perfectly tailored and personalized gloves. These innovations have allowed us to offer products that feel modern while still preserving tradition. Today, 80 percent of our production is exported worldwide, and we collaborate with major international department stores, from America to Japan.

Is there a model of glove that has brought you particular satisfaction?

There are several, but I would proudly mention the gloves created for the Royal Edition and Jubilee Edition in England, made on the occasion of Queen Elizabeth’s 80th anniversary on the throne. That was a milestone that confirmed our international recognition. And yet, I believe the glove that will truly represent us is the one we have not created yet. There is always room to go further.

What is the essential detail that must always be present in a high-quality glove?

First of all, the raw material. We only use the finest leathers and fabrics. But that alone is not enough. What truly makes the difference is taste and style, the ability to transform these materials into an object that expresses both elegance and personality.

If you had to describe Gala Gloves in a single word, which one would it be?

I would say “Contemporary Tradition.” I know that’s two words, but together they capture who we are. If I had to choose only one, then it would be “Contemporary,” because it means being connected to the present, embracing innovation, without losing sight of our roots.
