Annallisa Calabrese. Neapolitan elegance is in our blood

The Sartoria Deluxe Creative exhibition, hosted at the National Museum of History of Moldova, brought Neapolitan artisans to Chișinău for the very first time.

#INTRO

This unprecedented event was made possible thanks to the Sandro Livv brand and Alexandru Cornicel, who initiated the visit of master craftsmen from Naples. The project was not commercial but educational and inspirational, aimed at showcasing the value of handmade creation and giving young people the opportunity to meet the bearers of centuries-old traditions.

Among the guests was Annallisa Calabrese, the fourth generation of the Calabrese family, whose brand, founded in 1924, is renowned for handmade ties and accessories.

#Interview

What is the most precious legacy you received from the founder, Eugenio Calabrese?

The most precious legacy is a sense of duty. I inherited this company and I try to carry it forward in the best possible way, following the principles passed on by my father: the product and its quality must always come first, along with honesty and fairness towards our clients.

How can a woman carry forward a tradition that has lasted for more than a hundred years?

In many different ways, because women often have a special inventiveness. For me, the greatest joy is to create. I constantly feel the need to develop new products, new color combinations, new accessories. It’s an inexhaustible source: every day new ideas and solutions come to mind. Of course, you have to consider what is feasible and what is not, but in my head there’s a continuous evolution, a creative flow that never stops.

What is the secret behind the harmony that defines your creations?

Harmony is something innate. It’s the emotion a product conveys the moment you see it: the shape of a tie, the proportions of a pattern, the way colors come together. All of these details create a single impression. When I design, I always picture the person who will wear it. For example, when I work on a summer collection of scarves or bandanas, I imagine an elegant man strolling through Saint-Tropez. That visualization helps me shape the collection and bring coherence to my vision of elegance.

What challenges do you face as the head of a company with such a strong family tradition?

The challenge is to always do better. Being the fourth generation carries enormous responsibility. You cannot be superficial, you cannot leave anything to chance. You must check everything and give your very best. It’s a duty: after my great-grandfather, then my grandfather and my father, now it is my turn. I must not only maintain the standard but also contribute something personal, to show what I was able to achieve for the brand.

How would you define Neapolitan elegance today?

Neapolitan elegance is in our blood. We have a strong sartorial tradition that shapes and sustains us. Elegance is, above all, something innate, but it can also be expressed through clothing. Neapolitan style has two sides: the classic, with a tailored jacket, tie and pocket square, where perfect combinations are essential, and the more relaxed, daytime look, where a simple linen shirt worn with trousers can be just as elegant. Clothing always reflects what we feel and how we want to be perceived.

What impressions did you take away after these days in Moldova?

This was my first time here, and I discovered a wonderful country: green, vibrant, welcoming. The hospitality was incredible; we truly felt at home. At the university, I saw passionate students who looked at us with admiration, and that touched me deeply. It was moving to realize that young people understand the value of craftsmanship and that we are still carrying forward, in today’s world, a tradition that began long ago.

I was also struck by the openness of Moldovan institutions. In Italy, dialogue with authorities is often rigid and bureaucratic, almost impossible. In Naples, we are fortunate to have a mayor who supports us, but at a national level there is stagnation. In Moldova I felt the opposite: energy, willingness to cooperate, and a real drive for growth. We never expected such support and warmth. I am convinced that this attitude is the key to Moldova’s future development and success.
